Horticultural Therapy

Horticultural Therapy (HT) is a professionally conducted client-centered treatment that utilizes gardening and horticultural activities to meet specific therapeutic or rehabilitative goals.

HT has been used to improve:

  • Physical condition and patient health management
  • Mental health and social adjustment
  • Recreational and leisure options
  • Educational training and occupational status
  • Intellectual, psychological and social well being.

HT is unique in its composition as it is non-threatening in its appearance, flexible in its application; cost effective and valuable in its use. It occupies a necessary position within the healthcare realm beside the occupational and physical therapist as part of an interdisciplinary medical team to benefit the patient’s overall health.

What does a Horticultural Therapist do?
